Concert Recap: Motionless in White's "Sweat and Blood" Tour in Charlotte, NC (July 21, 2026)

There's nothing better than seeing a band you've been a fan of for a long time continue to reach new heights with each album and touring cycle. The Scranton, PA-based metalcore band Motionless in White has been a favorite of mine for a long time, with my first introduction to their music taking place 13 years ago, and it's been an absolute pleasure watching their careers develop over the past decade and a half. With each album, they've reached bigger audiences, and I've watched them go from playing in clubs and dive bars when I first got into them to now headlining amphitheaters and playing the main stages at festivals all over the world.

Motionless in White's latest album Decades once again pushes the envelope musically and expands their sonic reach to new listeners, but also serves as a celebration of the 20th anniversary of their formation in 2006. To bring that celebration to the stage, the band have embarked on their biggest headlining tour to date, the "Sweat and Blood" Tour, filling arenas and amphitheaters all across the US and Canada over the course of the year. This first leg runs from July to August, and features support from Lorna Shore, Fit For a King, and Static Dress, making for one of the most stacked metal tours of the summer.

The "Sweat and Blood" Tour made its way to Charlotte, NC at the Truliant Amphitheater earlier this week, with Static Dress getting the show started. I'm a relatively new fan of Static Dress, having only gotten into their music a year or two ago, but I've had their new album Injury Episode on repeat the last couple months and was very excited about their involvement on this tour and getting to see them live for the first time. The people in the crowd who showed up early were in for a treat, because the band wasted no time getting the moshpits moving and getting the crowd on their feet.

For a band that's thrived in small venues and established a reputation for unforgettable intimate shows, it was interesting to see them on a stage this huge, but they seemed right at home during their performance. Vocalist Olli Appleyard almost never stood still in one place during the course of their set, constantly pacing to and from each side of the stage, and I have a feeling drummer Sam Ogden would've been just as active across the stage if he wasn't confined to the drum throne. I loved getting to hear "Human Props" live too, because that song's been living rent free in my head ever since it first came out, so from a musical standpoint, that was certainly my favorite part of their whole set. I'm glad to have seen them live for the first time, and I'm really looking forward to seeing Static Dress live at a headline show one of these days.

Fit For a King followed Static Dress, and after just seeing their Lonely God headline tour in Myrtle Beach, SC almost two months ago, it was awesome to not have to wait so long to see them again. I've said before that Fit For a King is one of the most exciting and musically impressive metalcore bands out there right now, especially in a live setting, and I still feel that way after this latest experience of seeing them live. It's sick to see them on big stages supporting a band like Motionless in White this summer, and I can't wait to see them headline places like these in the near future.

It's genuinely an honor and pleasure to get to photograph this band again — from being front and center for Ryan Kirby's 25-second scream in "Backbreaker" to trying to anticipate when Ryan "Tuck" O'Leary will go ham with his bass, it's been a joy getting to take photos of these guys on two different occasions this year. They sound even better live than they do on their albums, and the energy between the band and the crowd is always palpable.

Genuinely, I can't say enough good things about Fit For a King, and I just hope it won't be too long before the next time I get to see them live.

Direct support was from Lorna Shore, which was another first-time live experience for me. I've seen a handful of heavy deathcore bands live over the past couple years, but Lorna Shore is easily the heaviest band I've ever seen in concert — it's a compliment when I say my eardrums are still recovering from their set.

Kicking off their set with their epic hit "To The Hellfire," there was no warm-up process when it came to Lorna Shore's set. From moshpits to crowdsurfers, the crowd was no longer stationary once the band started playing, and didn't seem to rest until the band left the stage. Lorna Shore is an impressive musical unit in a live setting, and I'm grateful to have experienced it for the first time. I was out of state the one time they played in my hometown of Jacksonville, NC in 2023, and I've had to miss nearby shows in Raleigh, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC since then, so seeing them live felt like a long time coming.

Photographing them was a unique challenge as well, but I'm ecstatic to have had the experience of snapping some shots of these guys. It was a big privilege to have witnessed their musical proficiency from up close in the photo pit, and I don't take the opportunity for granted. They put on a great show, and I hope I'll be able to experience a headline set from them soon.

Motionless in White started their set all guns blazing, with the one-two punch of the fan-favorite single "Sign of Life" from 2022's Scoring the End of the World, and the absolute rager of a track "Playing God," the heaviest song off their latest album, Decades. From the opening track, the audience was screaming along and jumping with every downbeat. The band is super lively on stage, and the crowd reciprocated that same energy from beginning to end.

Through the course of 19 songs, the band did a wonderful job of chronicling their 20 years of music, covering the bases of all their full-length albums, and even including the instrumental intro to their debut EP The Whorror. New songs like "Afraid of the Dark" and "R.I.P" had their time to shine, and so did fan favorites like "Rats" and "Hollow Points," along with the expected hits like "Thoughts & Prayers" and "Slaughterhouse."

Production-wise, this is the biggest show that Motionless in White has ever put together, even exceeding the type of production they'd pull for festival appearances in recent years. There are plenty of video screens and pyrotechnics that are utilized in different capacities throughout the show, and one of the biggest theatrical enhancements has been the inclusion of the Cherry Bombs dance troupe. They've collaborated with Motionless in White several times over the last few years, and they add a whole new layer of theatricality that's perfect for the band and their music. I honestly hope they become a permanent part of their live show, because it would honestly feel incomplete without their inclusion.

This show in Charlotte was my 3rd time seeing Motionless in White live, with the first being in 2022 at House of Blues Myrtle Beach at the end of the first leg of the "Trinity of Terror" T0ur, then last year at the 2025 Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, FL — there's a part of me that wishes I would've had more chances to see them live while they were still playing in clubs and theaters, but I'm still just grateful to get to see them now at this stage of their career. They're at the top of their game and the shows they're putting on now make for one of the best concert experiences I've ever seen.

Anyone who has ever been around me has likely heard Motionless in White's music at least once — they're easily one of my all-time favorite bands, so one can probably imagine my surprise when I had the insane privilege of photographing their set at this show. Not only was this the biggest show I've ever shot as far as the size of the stage and audience goes, but this show meant a lot to me personally as a longtime fan of the band. Their music has been with me through several different stages of life, and this was the first time I'd ever felt nervous in the photo pit, just praying that my photos would do justice to how important the band and their music is to me. To photograph them on this tour, with their biggest production and best performances to date, on top of the fact that they're celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band, means more than I'm currently able to articulate.

Photographing this show was a dream come true, but just getting to see the show as a fan meant a lot. As I'd stated earlier, I've had the pleasure of watching Motionless in White reach new levels of touring success and studio proficiency over the years with each passing album cycle, and it was great to finally get to see a headline set from them after keeping my fingers crossed for over a decade.

I'm glad it won't be too long before the next time I get to see them live at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, NC on November 3, and I can't wait to experience this show in an arena. Consider this my official petition/request for "Cause of Death" to be on the setlist for that show as well — if not, I'll happily settle for "Cobwebs" or "Holding On To Smoke" too. In all seriousness, I'll be happy with whatever they end up playing, and I'm just excited to get to experience this show again in just a couple months.
