Concert Recap: From Ashes To New's "New Disease" Tour in Norfolk, VA (November 2, 2025)
From Ashes to New is alway leveling up, and this show was without a doubt their best headlining set yet, from the production to the support lineup
Those who have been around for a while probably know that I've seen From Ashes to New live more than any other band and always make a point to see them whenever I can — my first time seeing them was in 2019 on their "March Into Madness" co-headliner with Ice Nine Kills, and I've gotten to see them a bunch of times when things opened back up after the COVID pandemic. Just in my hometown of Jacksonville, NC, I've seen the band live 5 different times, with my sixth time marking the my first time seeing them away from home at this year's Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, FL. to continue the annual tradition of seeing them live once or twice a year, my seventh From Ashes to New concert took place at the NorVa in Norfolk, VA at the tail end of their "New Disease" Tour, featuring support from heavy hitters Not Enough Space, Until I Wake, and Magnolia Park. On paper, there's not a single weak link in this lineup, and it's always great when that's how it feels during the show itself.
The first band to hit the stage was also the heaviest, with Not Enough Space getting the night started on an intense note. As someone who's gotten familiar with their music through social media and never got to see them live until this point, I was really impressed with not just how well they performed and how great they sounded, but also how well they interacted with the audience. The venue was already pretty packed when their set started and it looked like almost everybody was familiar with their music and excited to see them, and the band took advantage of that and fed off their energy really well. As short as their set was, they definitely made a statement with their performance and I'm sure I'm not the only one who hopes they return to this part of the country soon.

Following Not Enough Space was Until I Wake, who has also had quite an eventful year, with a few lineup changes (including the return of original vocalist Cody Jamison) and relentless touring, including a European tour with Catch Your Breath and a slew of US festival appearances in the spring and summer. I was really impressed with them when I saw them live in Jacksonville, NC last year with vocalist Jaali Cypher, and getting to see them with Jamison back in the fold this time around was awesome. Much like with Not Enough Space, the crowd loved Until I Wake right from the jump, making the crowd participation moments even more powerful. The band had a great dynamic together onstage, and it's exciting to see them continue to do their thing even after shifting between members here and there over the past year and a half since I've last seen them.

A band I've been really wanting to see over the past couple years is Magnolia Park, so one can imagine my excitement when I saw that they were direct support for this tour. Their album Baku's Revenge was one of my favorite albums of 2022, and they've been steadily releasing bangers every year since then, so it felt great to finally get to see them perform live. One of my favorite Baku's Revenge songs, "Misfits," kicked their set off, which was followed with cuts from their latest album Vamp. Their 10-song set felt like it passed by really quickly, but they put on a great performance and the crowd loved every second of it, with the audience coming to life during songs like "Do Or Die," "Shallow," and their cover of "I2I" from A Goofy Movie (1995). For a band that's gotten progressively heavier over the last couple years, they were a perfect fit to be touring with From Ashes to New, especially as direct support, and they were an awesome act to get to watch before the headliners took the stage.
Magnolia Park Setlist:
- Misfits
- Shadow Talk
- Cult
- Do Or Die
- Omen
- Shallow
- Crave
- The Void

Kicking their set off with their latest single "New Disease," From Ashes to New hit the stage with the same energy and enthusiasm that the fans have come to expect from them each time out. Vocalists Danny Case and Matt Brandyberry always have great musical chemistry when performing and switching vocal responsibilities back and forth, and this show was no exception. Guitarists Jimmy Bennett and Lance Dowdle constantly walked around both sides of the stage while strumming and interacting with both the audience and their bandmates, and a lot of the crowd was enamored with drummer Mat Madiro too, which Case and Brandyberry humorously acknowledged between songs.
As I've said before, I've seen this band live and written about my experiences from watching them so many times, so it's hard to not repeat myself when I say how incredible they perform. I've never had a less-than-stellar experience at one of their shows, and each time I see them somehow manages to be even better than the last. I always leave their shows feeling like the most recent time I've seen them was the best, and this show was no exception. Their lighting and overall stage production is on another level, making it such a great time to photograph their set from any and all available angles and vantage points in the venue, and they always sound exceptional. Around halfway through the set, Case mentioned that he was sick and feeling under the weather, but it was impossible to even assume that was the case given how excellent he sounded, especially on vocally demanding songs like "Panic" and "My Name."
As far as the setlist goes, the band did a great job of representing all of their albums, with most of the setlist understandably consisting of tracks from their latest full-length, 2023's Blackout. Even with the experience of seeing them perform so many times, it's still hard to pick a favorite moment or song from the night, but "Scars That I'm Hiding" is always a highlight — not only is it one of my favorite From Ashes to New songs in general, but it always has a bigger energy in a live setting with the crowd participation, and getting to watch that song from the balcony this time around was a really cool experience. It was cool to get to hear songs like "Light Up the Sky" and "Hate Me Too" again, but I also loved hearing "Hope You're Happy" and "New Disease" live for the first time at this show too.
All in all, From Ashes to New put on another spectacular show and continue to find a way to level up their shows with each tour, and their support lineup was equally fantastic all-around. I never get tired of seeing this band live and watching them continue to reach new heights, and I'm super excited as always to see what the years ahead have in store for them. It seems like I can never go too long without getting to see them live again, so I'm hoping that trend continues next year.
